Beamline hardware issues
Search and lock procedure times out before procedure is completed
Try Search and lock procedure again. The procedure is timed so make sure you are doing the procedure in good time.
Check all search buttons are being pressed in correct order.
Check that you are not setting of light gates (on hutch door) before starting procedure.
Call BL staff/EHCs.
Search procedure wont start
Check all doors are correctly closed
The shutter is not opening
Has it been more than 3 minutes?
If you have not been taking beam into the hutch recently, GDA will wait 3 minutes to open the shutter.
Check the gas levels (User information screen).
The PCO gas (Argon Technical Grade) should flow at 1.7 SCCM
The KB Gas (BIP Helium) should flow at 3.5 SCCM
Check regulators on the bottles themselves.
If gas has run out call EHC’s to replace (8787) – let them know which gas and which grade (Argon – Technical, Helium – BIP).
Check shutter interlocks
On User information screen check interlock icons - all should be bright green after opening the shutter.
If Guardlines Status is not bright green - Search and lock the hutch again.
For anything else contact BL Staff (Through EHCs if out of hours).
Otherwise Call BL STAFF
Diffraction detector icon is red
Imaging detector icon is red
Scan issues
If you cannot see your sample in the imaging FOV
Check the shutter is open.
If shutter fails to open check page for EH shutter issues.
Check the beam selector is set to correct beam.
The top drop-down field (user selection) and the bottom field (read back/actual beam) can become out of sync. (eg. Top says imaging but readback says diffraction).
In this case – set the drop down menu to the same as the read back value and then again use the drop down menu to select the beam of choice.
Check that the camera stream is on.
Turn on camera stream (1)
The camera button should go light green (shown below). If it does not go green
Initiate a new camera (2)
This should open a new window.
Using stream drop down select EPICS PV Access and press connect. Once you click connect, you should see a live stream.
If the imaging camera or pilatus does not initiate/turn on or icon goes red Call BL Staff.
Check that the exposure time is set correctly.
If the exposure is too high, the detector will max out (65K pixel count for imaging). This is not good for either detector so stop ASAP. If it is too low then the image will appear black.
Check your sample in the correct position.
Rotate sample 180 degrees using GTS theta – the sample should appear in the view
Check base-X is set to GTS position
Check the sample height is correct. Use the laser as a guide.
