Preparing for an In-Person Experiment

Preparing for an In-Person Experiment

In person experiments typically encompass our standard, block allocation group (BAG) and long term access experiments. These experiments have been deemed by the beamline staff and peer review panel (PRP) as ones in which users must come to site to conduct.

For these experiments, an amount of preparation (both scientific and administrative) must be conducted. Please look in the Standard and BAG sections for experiment specific information. This section will give an overview for all in-person experiments.

Diamond provides travel and accommodation to users coming to site. These must align with Diamond’s travel policies for users that can be found here. Please book travel as early as possible to provide the best value travel plans.

Where possible, users will be placed in Ridgeway House, a short walk from Diamond, however due to capacity constraints, users may be placed in hotels in Wantage and Didcot. Diamond will reimburse travel on Thames Travel buses or provide taxi’s for unsociable hours.

Some users may require a visa to travel to the UK, please check your home countries/UK government travel pages for requirements. If you do require a visa to travel and it will take a non-zero amount of time to acquire, please make beamline staff aware via XPDF@diamond.ac.uk so we can schedule your experiment within a reasonable amount of time.
