FIB - Sample Loading / Unloading
Sample Insertion
- The sample should be mounted on an appropriate SEM stub.
- Insert stub in to sample exchange mount and ensure it is fixed by tightening any grub screws.
- Ensure sample shuttle is in the exchange chamber. (In software, should be in exchange position and the holder light should be off).
- Vent chamber using the software.
- Insert sample shuttle in to the grips.
- Close chamber and pump using the software.
- To insert, pull the lever down, pull the lever back, twist until the mechanism unlocks and push then push the handle forward until it stops.
- Once inserted, pull the handle back, twist to lock in place and push the lever back up. The holder light should now be on.
- Once inserted, a sample exchange window will pop up in the software. Select the correct mount and type in the correct offset. Click SEM position in the software to bring the sample to the correct height.
Sample Extraction
- Ensure the sample shuttle is in the exchange position.
- To extract, pull the lever down, pull the lever back, twist until the mechanism unlocks and push then push the handle forward until it stops.
- Once inserted, pull the handle back, twist to lock in place and push the lever back up. The holder light should now be off.
- Vent the sample exchange chamber using the software.
- Take out the sample holder by sliding it free from the grips. Do not pull it upwards until it is released as this may damage the mechanism.
- Close the sample exchange chamber and pump it down, using the software, when not in use.
